I have never thought about it in this context
that’s actually really, really creepy.
I once pointed this out to my mother and she just stared at me, in stunned silence for ages.
There will always be a girl who is less sober, less secure, with less friends walking in a darker part of town. I want her safe just as much as I want me safe.
I don’t think this is necessarily true… It’s not like they’re saying “make sure he rapes the other girl”, they’re saying that unfortunately, rape is a real threat and it happens. They want us to take every precaution to make sure it doesn’t happen to us. If we lived in a perfect world, a woman should be able to walk down an empty street at night without the threat of being raped, but in the real world it’s very dangerous, and most people know this. Most women know that it’s dangerous to walk alone at night, and the sad truth is that it’s dangerous to get too drunk at a party, because there is a serious threat of being raped. So no, people aren’t promoting the rape of another woman, they’re just saying that the sad truth of life is that rape is real and it happens and it will happen to thousands of women unfortunately. We need to take precautions to be safe.
